About Stewardship

We are a Stewarding Community where all members, as the body of Christ, utilize their gifts of time, talent and treasure to participate in the building of God's Kingdom. We recognize that there is a direct integral relationship between the willingness of a person to be a good steward and their own spiritual growth.

Stewardship Philosophy

In the Idaho Falls Catholic Community we believe that stewardship and faith go hand in hand. How we steward things really is a direct measure of our faith. Rather than focusing on stewardship per se we focus on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Good News that we can know and experience His personal love for us and be empowered by His Holy Spirit. As members grow in this relationship they become more eager to know and follow what Jesus teaches through the Scriptures and the teachings of His Church. As conversion deepens new understandings develop.

What is a Steward?

Jesus makes it clear in the gospel (Lk 12:41-48) that the steward is not the owner but the one to whom the owner entrusts his goods so that he will manage them justly and responsibly.

Why is Stewardship important?

Being a faithful steward begins with prayer -- a prayer of thanksgiving to Almighty God for all the gifts and blessings we have received. Underlying our stewardship is this recognition and acknowledgment of the truth that everything we have is a gift from God. God owns it all and has generously entrusted life, health, time, talents, and possessions to us for His purposes. Our only stance before God becomes one of gratitude for the abundance He has poured out upon us. With that attitude of gratitude comes the question: "Lord, what would you have me do with all you have given me? What is your plan, your purpose, your will?" It effects our whole way of living out our Christian life. We are the Body of Christ

Coupled with this is our understanding that all of us together form the Body of Christ that is the local Idaho Falls Catholic Community. Each person, by virtue of being a member of the body, has a special God-given function within the body. The example we often use is that your right hand doesn't volunteer to serve the rest of the body; but by the very fact of being a member of the body, it has a special function it fulfills, while at the same time receiving the ministry of the other members. As our relationship with the Lord grows, so does our awareness of other members of the body and our willingness to server them.
