Birthright

Birthright is an interdenominational crisis center. It defends the right of every child to be born and hte right of every woman to give birth. Birthright extends its help to approxiamtely 200 people annually. Birthright helps women find the resources in the community that enable them to carry their children to full term. They teach parenting skills and coordinate with adoption agencies. Services offered include friendship with women in crisis situations, free pregnancy testing and free maternity and baby clothing.

Catholic Charities of Idaho

Catholic Charities of Idaho works to strengthen family life and support human dignity through professional social services that meet the needs of individuals, family and groups. In the Eastern Deanery, the focus of the organization is its immigration services with children and families at risk. Youth development is emphasized with school retention asistance, with crises pregnancies and family support through counseling, educational workshops, and support groups. Catholic Charities of Idaho also provides technical assistance and education to parishes seeking to begin or expand their efforts in parish social ministry. Services are offered to all regardless of religion, race/ethnicity, or income. Services are available in Spanish as well as English. Volunteer opportunities include serving as a middle school tutor, or as a mentor to a young mother or pregnant teen. Catholic Charities of Idaho main office is at 745 W. Bridge St in Blackfoot. The Idaho Falls office is located at 228 1/2 Ninth St.

Catholics Can Come Home

This ministry provides a means to help those Catholics who do not regularly attend mass or receive the sacraments, or Catholics who have left the church. It is a time and place where they may bring their problems or issues and encouragement to continue their journey within the Catholic family. It also provides an opportunity to deepen and clarify ones understanding of the church and its teachings. The ministry includes some semi-structured sessions as well as opportunity for individual meetings. The entier ministry is steeped in respect and confidentialit.

Christian Ministries

Saint Vincent de Paul
This ministry functions as a charitable non-profit organization with a tax designation under SOIC. Saint Vincent de Paul functions in four main areas.
* Thrift Store: The store offers clothing for the entire family and some smaill household items. The stoer is located on May Street with shopping hours on Monday, Wenesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Donations may be made six days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Volunteers help in the store area and also to receive and sort incoming items. The Christian Food Pantry is located on May Street with teh same hours of operation.
* Christmas Baskets(Ellen Close): This ministry is a nondenominational community effort. It is spearheaded through the Saint Vincent de Paul organinzation with the Idaho Falls Catholic Community and hte First Presbyterian Churches. Contributions are also made through many other denominational churches and several organizaitons from the Eastern Idaho area. This minstry provides Chirstmas for over 450 families. Much time and effort is required to provide gifts for all the children of the intended family as well as the food for Christmas Day. Volunteers to help this project succeed are always needed. Schedules and sign-up dates are posted in the Sunday bulletin.

Christian Services Committee

The Christian Services Committee is a decision making body. THis ministry decides how the monies donated by the parish as well as individual contributions are donated to the needy. The committee meets formally and informaly six or seven times a year. Benefiting organizations are St. Vincent de Paul and non-denominational groups such as The City of Refuge, Birthright, the Idaho Falls Food Bank, and the Good Shepherds' home. There is, as well, a donation to the Chirstmas Basket Project. Individual special needs are also met from time to time through the above organizations and recommendations through parish referrals.

Church Rides

This ministry helps to transport parishioners to and from our weekend masses. If you are unable to attend church services due to transportation problems, or if you are able to provide transportation for one or two members to and from Mass contact the coordinator listed above.

Coffee Hour

Coffee hours are held at Holy Rosary following the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass and at Christ the King following the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. These get-togethers are a wonderful way to meet your fellow parishioners and to welcome newcomers. Each week a different group is needed to host a coffee hour. This activity can easily be handled by a group of two, families, prayer groups, any of our organizations or a retreat group. First time volunteers are helped by the coordinators listed above. Time requirement is approximately two hours on a Sunday morning.

Companions By Your Side: No One Should Die Alone

"Companions by your Side" is a nondenominational ministry or service to the dying. It is dedicated to providing a lvoing presence from the community at large by being present as support for those who are preparing to depart this world. Volunteers provide a caring "friend" and companionship in a one on one basis. This can be accomplished through a care facility or private home situation. Volunteers for this ministry are trained by Hospice of Eastern Idaho alon withside by side training from the Companions By Your Side minsters. Training is between two and four days.

FREEMED

FREEMED is a nondenominational program designed to aid low income people with no prescription insurance to obtain prescription medication at little or no cost. Ten counties are served in Southeastern Idaho.
FREEMED is an umbrella organization of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. This ministry assists clients with information and paperwork to access over 270 pharmaceutical company Patient Assistance Programs. There is communication with over 300 health care providers. Pickup and delivery of paperwork is provided by volunteers. Funding is provided by grants and donations from private individuals, businesses, and foundations.

Funeral Dinners

Funeral Dinners are available for parish members and are held in Christ The King Parish Center following the conclusion of services. While making funeral arrangements families are asked by the priest if dinner services are needed. If needed, volunteers from the parish are called upon to provide foods for he dinner. A list is maintained of volunteers to setup, serve food, and to help clean up. If you would liek to help, please call Cathy Koelsch.

Homebound Visitation Ministry

The Homebound Visitation ministry is an opportunity for ordinary Catholics to live out their faith in an extraordinary way by taking the Holy Eucharist to people unable to attend Mass due to illness or injury. The goal of this ministry is to meet hte spiritual needs of our faithful homebound by sharing the compassion, care and love of our Lord Jesus Christ with those who need to hear the Good News but cannot attend Mass. This is a Eucharist outreach program visiting nursing homes, assisted living and retirement facilities, and homboudn faithful parishioners on a regular basis.

Hospital Visitation

This ministry offers the Eucharis to hospital bound patients. To carry the host you must be a commissioned Eucharistic Lay minister. Training also includes a short course at the hospital on the rules and the regulations for visiting patients. A yearly tetanus injection is required. To develop a comfort level, side by side training with a current minister is used.

Hospitality Team
This team answers the call to encourage and support people as needed to foster parish connectedness. Making first contact with new parishioners and returning Catholics, following up on baptisms and welcoming people entering the church for Mass are some of the current activities. The Hospitality Team also encourages parish togetherness by the publication of a pictorial directory, updating the ministries booklet, and hosting coffee hour for special events. Being planned are activities for young adults an dseniors, as well as sponsoring travel opportunities. The Hospitality Team meets on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 in the Holy Rosary Rectory.

Jail Ministry

The Jail Ministry offers to inmates of any religion friendship, prayer, adn scripture sharing. Their purpose is to let the inmates know that God loves them. Inmates are provided with bibles and the "Living Faith" booklet. Sometimes letters arewritten to prisoners that have been transferred. Approximately 25 contacts (personal and written) are made each month. Training is accomplished by accompanying a volunteer during visitation sessions. Two or three hours per week are asked of the volunteers. Reading materials include "Outline of the Catholic Faith." Volunteers are subject to a background check done by the Bonneville County Sheriffs officers. A copy of a driver's license is needed. Volunteers should be good listeners, compassionate, and nonjudgmental.

Soup Kitchen

The Catholics of Idaho Falls support St. Mark's Soup Kitchen by preparing and serving meals to the community's needy. Every Wednesday of the year and the first Saturday of the month a different Catholic organization or group of volunteers prepare hot meals for approximately 80 people at the kitchen. THe teams rotate from week to week so that one team will only work once every other month or approximately six times a year. A team is typically made up of one or two cooks and four to six workers. The team will setup the dining hall, cook and serve the meal, and clean the hall after the meal.
