Penance: The Sacrament of Reconciliation

Penence is the Sacrament by which we receive the pardon of God for the sins we have committed after our Baptism. It is also called the Sacramenet of Reconciliation because, not ony are we reconcicled with God but also with the community of beleivers, that is The Church. Both aspects of reconciliation are important.

As members of the Body of Christ, all that we do effects the entire Body. Sin wounds and weakens the Body of Christ; the healing and reconciliation we receive in the Sacrament returns strength and health to our Community and ourselves.

The Catholic Church requires its members to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation at least one time per year, especially during the Lenten Season and Easter. However it is an excellent practice to receive the Sacrament at least once a month. One time per month allows you time to make a good examination of your conscience and heart and afterward confess your sins. One time per month also gives you enough time and the opportunity to see how God's healing power and reconciliation is working in your life.

First Reconciliation is done through our sacaramental preparation program in our Elementary Religious Education department.
